Cheap Flights

February 16th, 2009 by Rory

I wrote a quick post late last year about cheap flights with Air Asia from Uk to Malaysia.  Just wanted to update you that they are currently offering some good deals over the next 6 days – booking period is today to 22nd Feb to travel in Oct through to Jan 2010 – go check them out here…..

Might be worth it but remember you have to pay for baggage and meals extra so check it all out before committing yourself – also flexibility is limited but if you on a tight budget and willing to rough it then worth a look – good luck.

Cheap Flights to Asia

November 27th, 2008 by Rory

I just wanted to make anyone aware of potentially cheap flights to Asia – so anybody out there considering coming to Borneo but worried about the cost of flights should check this out. Here in Malaysia a company called Air Asia are ruling the skies with their cheap no frills flights. They fly all around SE Asia and if you book well enough in advance can get some great deals. Kuala Lumpur is one of their main hubs as is Kota Kinabalu which is where you would fly into Borneo. If you are going on one of our trips and want to travel around Asia before or afterward then you should consider Air Asia.

The main news is that they launched this week in London cheap flights from KL to London Stanstead, starting in March 09. The fares they are offering are extremely low if you are lucky enough to book early – if not their prices are still very reasonable despite having to add on taxes, baggage allowance and meals for the flight. We reckon an average cost would be about £450 return which is excellent compared to other main carriers. So go check it out at this link…………

A few words of warning though since we like to make sure all our travellers are well informed. They are no frills and there is almost no flexibility with your ticket so make sure your dates are not going to change. Also their domestic routes in Malaysia are sometimes prone to delay (although they are a lot better than they used to be!) – so make sure you leave plenty of margin during your transfers – if you miss their flights due to delay they are unlikely to re-imburse you or assist too much – you get what you pay for!! That said they are now flying brand new airbuses around Asia and hence have the most modern fleet of aircraft in the region. Go check them out – you may also see they officially sponsor Manchester Utd and their logo is on the sleeves of Premier League refs!!

responsible Tourism awards 2008 volunteer winnerAfter being shortlisted this year (for the sixth year running!) for the responsible tourism awards and winning a highly commended award last year, we were all nervous about this years awards…

It with great pride that I can blog that we won! The team are so proud! Unfortunately I don’t have any cheesey photos (yet!) to post, but we do have a copy of our winners article in the Responsible Tourism Awards Magazine. It details the struggle this year has presented and… well, I’ll let you read it (click below)

If that’s difficult to read, click here

I wasn’t going to blog this but I feel in the style of this blog I should…It’s worth noting that in the original magazine article they got Stu’s name wrong. They called him Stu Philips rather than Stuart Rees Jones.

I mean being called Stu Philips isn’t too bad. Is it?

Name our Orangutan

September 22nd, 2008 by Rory

For the team out here in Borneo we have become quite attached to the great looking orangutan in our Camp Borneo logo – and we have started to wonder what we can call him/her. During the design stage of the logo by our illustrious web master Rob, the orangutan took on various guises including a super hairy looking one and then he ended up shaved and with a distended belly – wierd looking – now its found a happy medium and a bit more orangutan like – but what are we going to call him/her?

I have had a couple of suggestions already – Nigel and Clyde and we also thought about Alan after the wild one we saw at Batu Puteh recently – so anyone out there with a great idea please send it in – there could be a prize in it, apart from having an orangutan named after your suggestion – I could supply a fluffy, gingery, little something as a prize for a brilliant idea! – this will not be a cutting from Rob’s facial growth so dont worry!! We will officially name the orangutan here next month so watch this space – below is some inspiration to get the orangutan names flowing!!
