I really enjoyed Bruce Parry’s recent T.V. series Blizzard: Race To The Pole. The reenactment of Scott’s attempt to reach the South Pole really shed light on hardship the team went through.
Scott kept a diary, and within it documented Oates ultimate sacrifice for the good of the expedition ‘I am just going outside and may be some time.”
This week Stu has also made the ultimate furniture sacrifice for the good of the team ‘”I am going to feng shui the office and work from a fisher price desk.”

All to often I hear young adults getting a slating in the press. I wish the young people I worked with made it into the press a bit more often as it would give a more balanced perspective.
I get to go into schools and offer young adults the chance to travel and have an adventure, a whole load of them say yes and then proceed to do extrodinary things. They take it upon them selves to get involved and make a difference. Its not easy. To get out to Africa means sacrificing quite a bit of time, careful budgeting and saving and a lot of work. But these young people are extrodinary and they do it.
The other day I found myself summiting on Snowdon with a team that will be travelling to Kenya in 2007. We were all soaked to the skin and the wind made it feel cold but have a look at this photo, they’re all smiling. These are the yound adults I work with, cool eh!!!
Guys, please make an effort to keep quiet about Simon’s 40th birthday tomorrow.
Please don’t email him with a subject header like ‘wow are you really 40 today?’.
Make sure that you make a point of not telling anyone else as well.
40 is a big deal and Simon would prefer to keep it low key so business as usual guys.
Certainly don’t start a forum topic on it.
Many thanks in advance for keeping this under wraps.
Stu
PS. I am 35.
Friday was a proud day for me, the wooden spoon was passed from the previous holder, Mr Simon Englefield (Kenyan Director) to myself. This award was given to me for “Consistant Silliness”
I’m proud to be bringing this award back to the UK and would like to thank all of the UK and Kenya staff without whose help and support this would not have been possible.
I would like to take this opportunity though to say that while quite they’re pretty I just don’t get what it is with these Mac’s, they seem to crash just as much as PCs and don’t have that other button on the mouse so its impossible to find anything
