Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro

FROM £1360

Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing volcano in the world and the tallest mountain in Africa. At an altitude of 5895 metres it presents a formidable challenge to all who attempt to climb it. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in the world that regular tourists can climb without previous mountain trekking experience or technical mountain climbing equipment. However, it still remains a considerable feat of human endurance, with less than half the breathable oxygen available than is commonly found at sea level. The key to summiting success is to go slow – we take our time over 7 days and as a result, over 90% of our climbers reach the top. Many other tourists fail as they try to save money by opting for a 4 or 5-day climb, the success rate for which is approximately 40%.

We follow the Machame route to the summit, which is undoubtedly the most beautiful of the 6 routes up the mountain with the highest summit success rate, yet is one of the longer and steeper routes available. The trek passes through some of the mountain’s finest features, including tropical cloud forest, open moorland and alpine desert.

Duration: 8 nights/9 days
Trekking Route: Machame
Summit Point: Uhuru Peak at 5895 metres
