ACCOMMODATION
Capacity: Sleeps 54
Consists of two types of accommodation. Firstly a series of basic sleeping blocks designed to be cool and well ventilated, with each individual sleeping unit made up of a hammock stretched out above a storage area. Volunteers should bring a mosquito net to ensure an insect free sleep! We also have 15 large single sex tents (3 to a tent).
Kitchen & Dining: A well equipped kitchen staffed by local cooks who supply a daily menu of three healthy well balanced meals, all made from fresh local produce. Food will be a mixture of Malaysian and western so it should cater for all tastes and preferences! We can cater for a variety of different dietary requirements so just let us know before you travel. Remember you will be on an island so be prepared for lots of delicious seafood!
Toilets & Showers: Small toilet and shower block located near the long house. Washrooms are separated into male and female. Toilets are traditional Asian style squat toilets.
Laundry: Small laundry area for volunteers to do their hand washing.
Social: A covered area built next to the kitchen acts as a social and resting place as well as acting as the teaching area for PADI scuba instruction. There is also a small shaded area of hammocks for that short siesta and of course an entire beach to relax on including an area set aside for campfires.
Power Supply: No mains electricity. A generator is run in the evenings. Plug sockets are British 3 pin.
Phone signal: None. Although the odd text message occasionally sneaks through it is better to consider yourself out of contact for your time here. However, there is a fully functional high frequency phone at the camp for emergency purposes.
Other Facilities: A small shop has been erected next to the camp to cater for snacks and drinks.
Security: Camp Mantanani has a security guard on duty 24 hours a day.
