Mount Kinabalu

Mount Kinabalu

FROM £235

At 4096 metres, Mount Kinabalu, or known more affectionately locally as Mt K, is the highest point in South East Asia and provides some spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. It is a very large mountain, which dominates the scenery around Kota Kinabalu. It stands alone and its rocky crown is visible many miles away. The climb itself is only 24 hours of trekking on the mountain – however it is not for the faint- hearted and you will find this an incredibly rewarding experience.

The 8-kilometre climb generally starts from the Timpohon Gate near the park headquarters (1,800 metres) with an overnight stay at a lodge at Laban Rata (3273 metres) before pushing on to the summit early next morning in time to see the sunrise over Borneo. You then return to Laban Rata for breakfast before descending back to the park headquarters by mid afternoon. The return trek to the summit from Laban Rata can take anywhere from 6-9 hours.

Duration: 1 nights/2 days
Trekking Route: Tourist circuit
Summit Point: Kinabalu peak at 4096 metres
