ACCOMMODATION
Capacity: sleeps up to 140
Camp Tsavo consists of eight authentic makuti (coconut frond thatching) ‘rondavels’ (circular bandas with conical roofs) that sleep up to 80 people and several large dome tents that can accommodate a further 60 people. Each banda has net window covers and every bed has an individual mosquito net – both designed to ensure an insect-free sleep! Similarly, every tent has ventilation and a built in fly screen to keep it cooler during the day and to keep the bugs out – providing you remember to keep the zip closed!
Individual sleeping units consist of bunkbeds (bandas only), a high-density mattress, a pillow, sheets, a blanket and a mosquito net (fly screen for tents).
Kitchen & Dining: Large fully equipped kitchen staffed by chefs who supply a daily menu of three healthy, well balanced and very tasty meals a day, all made from fresh local produce. We can cater for a variety of different dietary requirements so just let us know before you travel. All of our camps have a plentiful supply of clean drinking water. The camp also boasts a large thatched, open-sided dining area in the centre of camp.
Toilets & Showers: Separate male and female washrooms that have several flushing toilets and a shower per block. Water is a scarce commodity here and so the use of water for showering and doing laundry may be restricted.
Laundry: Large purpose built laundry room for volunteers to do their hand washing. Limited water available for hand washing clothes.
Social: Large social and dining area, campfire.
Power Supply: Generator for 1-2 hours in the evening – so make sure you take plenty of batteries! UK standard 3-pin plug sockets.
Phone signal: Very poor.
Other Facilities: Fully stocked laboratory with zoological exhibits, study/presentation room and education centre.
Security: The camp is surrounded by an electric fence to deter wildlife from entering.
