Itinerary (13 nights/ 14 days)
Day 1, Kota Kinabalu – Ulu Moyog community Homestay - Arrive at Kota Kinabalu Airport and transfer to Ulu Moyog community homestay. Settle into accommodation and freshen up. Meet local representatives, full briefing and orientation of community before dinner. (LD)
Days 2-6, Volunteer Programme – Five rewarding days participating in our school and community development programme within Ulu Moyog community area. (BLD)
Day 7, Afternoon/Evening trip to Klias River – Spend the morning in Kota Kinabalu catching up on some shopping or relaxing. After lunch get picked up and taken two hours south of Kota Kinabalu to the Klias Wetland, a mangrove forest reserve. Here you will have a boat tour where you should be able to see the fascinating and rare Proboscis monkeys as well as other wildlife. After a traditional Malay dinner watch a display of Fireflies as they come out in the early evening. (BD)
Day 8-11, Volunteer Programme – Four more days participating in our school and community development programme within Ulu Moyog community area. (BLD)
Day 12, Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary Visit – Catch an early morning flight from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan. Met at airport and driven to Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary to catch their morning feeding. Watch as orphan orang-utans which have been released back into the reserve come out of the jungle to get their morning feed. An excellent photo opportunity for even amateur photographers. A short tour of Sandakan and lunch prior to returning to Kota Kinabalu on afternoon flight. Flight time is approximately 40 minutes. (BLD)
Day 13, Community Farewell - An opportunity to say goodbye to the people that you have worked closely with over the previous weeks. (BLD)
Day 14, Departure - Transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport and depart. (BL)
Please be aware that the exact nature of the work you will be involved in will depend on the current needs and priorities of the school and village. As volunteers it is important to remain flexible and keep in mind that sometimes priorities and/or emergencies may arise which may result in your duties changing at short notice. We also reserve the right to change the order of your itinerary, not the components, to suit client numbers and seasonality.
Fitness
None of the activities featured require anything more than a reasonable level of fitness. No special skills are required for any of our projects.
Inclusions
- Arrival and Departure transfers: Airport transfer to community on day 1. Transfer from camp to Airport on day 14
- Orientation
- Staffing and participation: Fully escorted by a tour leader and local guides used within Reserves.
- Construction work will also be supervised by qualified local builders and carpenters.
- Transport: Fully equipped 4x4 vehicle, minivan or bus. Return flight to/from Sandakan
- Accommodation: 13 nights in homestay style accommodation.
- Meals: As per itinerary B – Breakfast, L – Lunch, D – Dinner
- Water: 1 litre per day

- Entrance fees: All park fees are included in this tour.

I loved the place, the people, the food - I know how to make Chapattis! I am now a qualified open water diver, and wow was that good - saw 2 humpback whales, 5 dolphins, and 2 turtles, as well as a blow fish - he was amusing! The community are amazing, so welcoming and the kids just waved every time they saw us. But nothing can beat the friends I made out there. I got on the plane to Kenya scared and worried that I wouldn't get on with anyone. By the end, I didn't want to leave Kenya. I’ve made a group of friends who I know I will see back in the UK; the Camp Kenya family. Thank you so much! You guys are fantastic! I've had the best experience of my life, and it's changed my perspective of so many things - I now want to go back to do the next part on my diving... The Projects
Every time someone books with us we use a proportion of the money to fund our projects. There is no room for us to act as politicians; it’s all about results. If we commit to a community partnership and say we will do something; we do it. It does mean that we are not the cheapest option, but for all the right reasons.

Community Projects
Kampung Kipouvo
Kampung (Kg) Kipouvo sits approximately 30 minutes outside of the state capital of Kota Kinabalu. It is a traditional Kadazan Dusun ethnic group community sitting in the Ulu Moyog area, on the Moyog river. This area of Sabah is in the foothills of the Crocker Range National Park and is set amongst lush forest and vegetation. Although the village is not on the poverty line, villagers still rely predominantly on subsistence farming as a means of providing food for their families. Kampung Kipouvo
This is the first of our Homestay projects with PACOS Trust and is therefore a very special location for us. You will stay within a house which is within the community itself. The house has been adapted slightly to ensure your comfort but otherwise is part of the make up of the village.
