This is how we do it…
There is no question about how hectic it has been to get everything ready for the big summer teams. Early mornings, late nights for all at Camp Kenya. But having seen the first few schools settle in to our camps and get cracking with the projects has left a big smile on all our faces. Personally, the whole vision of Camps International is very special for me as I have never come across such dedication at all levels.
Knowing that our gappers and school teams have worked so hard to save up to come out here and have a meaningful working holiday is exceptional in itself. We are about projects. We are about doing our little bit to help our environment and the people and wildlife that depend on it. That is what we are and this is how we do it!
This summer, our gappers will be spending a lot of time at Chanukeni Child Care Centre where we are constructing an additional classroom and kitchen. Also thanks to the Leapers, the volunteer teacher will be able to return to college and have some formal training as well as a big donation of critical food items. Click HERE for more photographs.
Meanwhile, school teams have been busy around Camp Muhaka where we are helping to create a buffer zone around a sacred forest as well as completing a classroom block, a library and a computer room at Muhaka Primary School. So much to be done and we have the girl power to do it! Click HERE for more photos.
Life’s a beach indeed…but a beach covered in flipflops, plastic bags and all sorts of other trash doesn’t exactly make for a nice evening walk so our teams are not just clearing off the trash but we have found an amazing little way of not only recycling trash but also creating awareness about marine wildlife and having a lot of fun doing it. We are very proud to say that we are building the first life size whale shark which will be covered completely with flipflops picked up from the beach. This little creature whom we have named Papa Pata Pata (Father fliflop) has been inspired by a project I worked on a few years ago and you can find out more about that HERE. A lot of great work but a lot of fun and down time too….Karibu Camps International…
