We will begin organizing the t-shirts as soon as soon as we have confirmation of everyone in the team’s details. We also try to be as eco-friendly as we can, so we like to take them directly to the school when we’re in the area. Please be patient and wrap up warm in the mean time!

As we are not medically trained we cannot, unfortunately, tell you exactly which vaccinations you’ll need so it is important that you consult your GP or travel clinic several months prior to travelling to find out which vaccinations are needed for entry into your destination country.

Malaria is prevalent in the areas you will be staying in so you will require malaria tablets. Your GP will be able to tell you which type will be the best for you but please be aware that if you intend to scuba dive it is not advisable to take Larium. For a full list of vaccinations which are usually recommended please see your Expedition Travel Pack.

Kenya: You will require a tourist visa ($50) Please make sure that you state your reason for entry as holiday. You can apply for your visa before you travel through the Kenyan High Commission or get it upon entering the country

Tanzania: You will require a tourist visa ($50) and a C Class Volunteer Visa ($120). You can apply for your tourist visa in advance from the Tanzanian High Commission but will need to get your C Class visa when you arrive in Tanzania.

Borneo: Visa is free on entry

Cambodia: You will require a 30 day tourist visa ($20) which you can get upon entering Cambodia. You will need to take a passport photo with you. If you do not have a passport photo available at the time they will scan your actual passport picture for an extra $1.

Ecuador: Visa is free on entry

There is a full kit list in your Expedition Travel Pack. We recommend taking clothing that you don’t mind getting ruined for project work as you will definitely get covered in mud and cement! You can take some nicer clothes for going out at weekends i.e. dresses, shorts.

Please be aware that the majority of the communities you will be staying with are Muslim so it is inappropriate to wear very short or tight clothing. When out in the communities and on project work we ask that shoulders and thighs are covered and that boys do not take their tops off. Dressing appropriately will earn you the respect of the people you will be working with.

Africa: We recommend taking around £200-£250 per month

Asia and Latin America: We recommend taking around £250-£300 per month

We advise taking a small amount of cash to start you off. Travellers cheques are difficult to change in all locations so it is usually easiest to take a Visa debit card. Mastercards and others will not work in the majority of our destinations. Please call the office if you have a query.

Kenya: Kenyan Shillings. Widely available in the UK. If using a pre-paid cash card you can use US Dollars

Tanzania: Tanzanian Shillings. Closed currency only available in Tanzania. Take US Dollars as you will get a better exchange rate.

Borneo: Malaysian Ringgitt. Available in the UK. If using a pre-paid cash card you can use US Dollars

Cambodia: We recommend you take US Dollars. Cambodian Riel may also be used but most people use dollars.

Ecuador: US Dollars

Yes. All our camps have secure areas for storing valuable objects when you are not in camp. Passports and money can be stored in a safe in the main office.

The majority of our camps will have electricity, whether from the mains or from a generator so there will be plenty of opportunity to charge electrical items. Please don’t take hairdryers or straighteners as these can cause problems with the generators!

In Africa there will be dome tents with in built flyscreens to keep out the creepy crawlies.

In Asia there will be a mixture of dome tents and traditional longhouses with mattresses provided. You will need to bring your own mosquito net. We recommend a box net.

The majority of camps have proper running showers although occasionally, due to water shortages, you may have to have bucket showers. Some camps, like the jungle camp in Borneo, do not have shower facilities so take some baby wipes!

Again the majority have good toilet facilities. In Asia many will be traditional style crouch toilets but they are clean and flush. Occasionally you may have to rough it a bit when you are out on project work so take some toilet roll and hand sanitiser.

If you want to take a phone to stay in touch with people at home we recommend taking an old handset which has been unlocked in the UK. You can then get a pay as you go local sim card as this works out a lot cheaper.

Most of our camps have good phone signal although there are some which don’t. We have satellite phones for emergencies but unfortunately you may have to get used to life without technology for a few days!

Only if you are doing a mountain climb or doing a 1 month Tanzania programme for your safari. In all other locations bedding is provided.

We recommend taking a 65-80litre rucksack.  This should be big enough for everything you need. Please don’t bring suitcases with wheels as the uneven terrain in country usually ruins them and you will end up having to pick them up and carry them.
