What’s it all about?

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world. It is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This huge global initiative includes more than 9,500 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, and more than 70 Local Networks. We are very proud to be joining a diverse range of national and international organisations in the network, including well-known international brands such as The World Travel and Tourism Council, Tesco and Nationwide. What does this mean for Camps?

At Camps, sustainability has always been at the very core of who we are. We are proud to have been operating a successful and sustainable social enterprise for over 17 years, however we know we must continuously assess ourselves to ensure that we maintain the highest standards of ethics and sustainability in everything we do – from our wider business strategies to our projects on the ground.

Our membership of the United Nations Global Compact demonstrates this commitment and aligns our culture, strategy and operations with globally accepted principles on sustainable development.

As part of our commitment to this initiative, we have pledged our support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact which highlight core values around human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. We commit to implementing these principles throughout Camps and each year we will submit a Communication on Progress to the United Nations Global Compact to outline our efforts to implement these principles.

We will also continue to engage in specific projects that advance the development goals of the United Nations. This includes the Sustainable Development Goals which we have implemented into each of our projects to make sure that we are creating a positive impact on the environment and communities that we work with, whilst tackling the issues embodied in the goals.
