Day Activities More details
Day 1 Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport Upon landing at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be met by a member of our awesome local team and transferred to your new home, Camp Mbokomu. Camp Mbokomu is one of our most established camps in Tanzania and is located in a small community, a short drive from Moshi. Here you’ll be warmly welcomed by the Camp Manager and crew and given time to settle in before you have a safety briefing and camp orientation. In the evening you’ll be treated to a traditional home-cooked dinner and time to relax around the campfire learning some Swahili phrases.
Day 2 Project orientation and school visit After a good night’s sleep and hearty breakfast, our project leaders will take you around the local community. While exploring the village you will get to know the local families before having a full briefing on what your work here will involve. During the briefing, you will learn more about the current situation and challenges faced by the community. You’ll also visit the local school to meet with the teachers and students and practice your Swahili phrases as you get ready to start your project work here this week.
Day 3 and 4 School Project Work In the Mbokomu region, local schools constantly struggle with a lack of adequate funding, which puts children’s lives at unnecessary risk from dilapidated classrooms that are close to collapse, as well as poor sanitary conditions. You will spend today working alongside our locally employed craftsmen to help build or renovate school buildings to create inspirational and stimulating learning resources for the students.
Day 5 Marangu Waterfall Trip The word “Marangu” means a place with too many water streams and it is one of the most popular places to visit in Tanzania. Situated in the Kilimanjaro National Park the waterfalls are at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro and are surrounded by tropical rain forest. After just a short walk through the lush landscape (keep your eyes peeled for different types of monkeys, tropical birds and other animals) you’ll find yourself at the base of some seriously impressive waterfalls. The source of the water comes directly from the glacier on top of Kilimanjaro.
Day 6 Project Work This morning you will head back to the project site and continue working on the school renovation project . Your afternoon will then be spent with the community in the village, gaining a deeper insight into the traditional way of life with a chance to learn to cook some local dishes, Tanzania style! In the evening you will enjoy a farewell ceremony, around the campfire, from the locals before saying your goodbyes and heading back to camp.
Day 7 Big game safari in Arusha National Park This morning you will be up early as you head to Arusha National Park for your safari. Arusha National Park is one of Tanzania’s most beautiful protected areas and is dominated by Mt Meru. The park has a rich variety of wildlife including giraffe, zebra, warthog, elephant and many others.
Day 8 Depart This morning you will say your final goodbye to the team in Tanzania and head to the airport ready for your flight home.
