Day 1 Arrival On arrival to Tokyo you will meet your local guides for the week and be provided with a Trip Briefing. Your guides will explain details about your travel plans and give advice on how to adapt to the local culture. To set the scene you’ll head to the very top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building to get a view of Tokyo like no other.
Day 2 Introduction to Japan Kick off the day with the “Introduction to Japan” session! Led by a Japanese language teacher and local students, this interactive experience will teach you essential Japanese phrases and intriguing customs. You’ll even get a beautiful Japanese paper booklet to jot down your discoveries and memories. Afterward, team up with local students for a thrilling adventure game around town. Use your new language skills, dive into Japanese culture, and make new friends along the way! Next, explore the stunning Meiji Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, who spearheaded Japan’s shift from feudalism to modernity. Then, dive into the vibrant Harajuku district, Tokyo’s cultural hotspot, where you’ll encounter everything from Pokémon to punks and goths to fashionistas—Harajuku has it all! Cap off your day with a visit to the famous Shibuya Crossing. Watch in awe as waves of pedestrians flood the intersection when the lights turn red—it’s one of Tokyo’s most iconic sights!
Day 3 Food and Culture Get ready for a day packed with culinary creativity, cultural discoveries, and modern-day excitement! Dive into the art of sushi-making with a nationally accredited instructor! Get hands-on training to craft your own beautifully shaped sushi using simple utensils. Create a unique signature dish and enjoy the delicious results. Discover the immense Tokyo National Museum, home to one of the world’s largest collections of Asian art and archaeological treasures, focusing on Japanese artifacts. With over 100,000 items and nearly 100 national treasures, you’ll be immersed in Japan’s rich cultural history. Wander through the six-building complex, some dating back to the early 1900s and designed by renowned architects. Afterward, relax in Ueno Park, exploring its ponds, cherry blossom trees and historic shrines. Wrap up your day with a visit to Akihabara, Japan’s famous ‘Electric Town.’ Originally known for its post war electronics industry, it’s now a bustling hub for anime and manga enthusiasts. Experience the vibrant otaku culture, discover the latest gadgets and explore spots dedicated to Japan’s most famous J-pop group, AKB48.
Day 4 Mount Fuji Get ready for breathtaking landscapes, cultural discoveries, and unforgettable memories! Kick off your adventure with a quick 30-minute train ride to Odawara. Escape the city’s hustle and bustle with a thrilling day trip to Hakone. Soak in stunning views of the iconic Mount Fuji as you ascend Owakudani’s volcanic alley by cable car. Witness the dramatic sulfur vents and hot springs formed by an eruption 3,000 years ago! After your descent, explore the charming town nestled in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, and experience life outside Japan’s major cities. If time allows, visit the serene Hakone Shrine. Start at the Torii gate in Lake Ashinoko, and follow a lantern-lit path through the forest to the shrine’s main building, surrounded by towering trees. After a delightful dinner, relax on a private coach back to Tokyo, a scenic 2-hour ride to end your exciting day.
Day 5 Tokyo Arts Start your day with a walk through Asakusa, where the spirit of ancient Tokyo thrives. Wander charming streets filled with traditional craft shops and street-food stalls, and visit the vibrant Sensoji Temple, one of Tokyo’s most popular Buddhist temples. With the help of friendly volunteers, learn to wear a kimono and embrace the elegance and grace of this iconic attire. Dive into the mesmerising world of digital art at TeamLab. Experience interactive installations that blend technology, art and nature, creating an immersive and ethereal environment. After dinner, cap off your day with a stunning Sumida River Cruise, offering breath taking views of the Tokyo skyline.
Day 6 Kamakura Adventure Immerse yourself in the beauty of Kamakura, a hidden gem often missed by tourists. Begin your day with a visit to the awe-inspiring Great Buddha of Kamakura, a towering 11-meter bronze statue and national treasure of Japan. Next, explore the iconic Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, a must-see in Kamakura. Conclude your day with a visit to Kenchoji, the oldest Zen temple in the area, offering a serene and historical experience. After a delightful dinner, hop on the train back to Tokyo, reflecting on a day filled with cultural discoveries and unforgettable sights.
Day 7 Tokyo Disneyland Get ready for a magical day at Tokyo Disneyland, the first Disney resort outside of America! Dive into thrilling rides, enchanting attractions and unforgettable experiences in this iconic theme park. After an amazing day of fun, join your fellow students and faculty for a special reflection session. Engage in discussions and guided activities to process your experiences, share insights, and reflect on what you’ve learned about Japan and yourself throughout the trip. End your journey on a high note with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime!
Day 8 Departure Time to return home. You’ll transfer to Tokyo Airport in time for your return flight.
