Day Activities More details
Day 1 Welcome to the Maldives & Transfer to Fulhadhoo Welcome to the Maldives! Arrive at Velana International Airport and take a 2 hour speedboat journey to your accommodation in Fulhadhoo, your home for the next 7 nights and close to one of the best beaches in the Maldives. Once settled, it’s time for a briefing before hitting the beach to take in the sunset before dinner.
Day 2 Island Tour & Snorkelling Skills Assessment Embark on a day of island exploration with Save the Beach Maldives, a local NGO and Island Luxury Dive institute. Following breakfast, enjoy a guided walking tour including visits to the Mosque and local fruit trees. In the afternoon, dive into your first Maldives snorkelling experience. Your guide will provide a safety briefing on responsible snorkelling and act as your ‘spotter’ during the experience. We finish the day with traditional evening tea and a beautiful Maldives sunset!
Day 3 Fish ID Snorkelling Begin the day with a presentation by Save the Beach on Maldives coral reefs, then venture into the ocean equipped with mask and fins to identify fish species for data collection. Afternoon delights include hedikaa (classical Maldivian snack) before a tropical forest walk to Thundi beach for a sunset spectacle; remember your torch for the journey!
Day 4 Coral ID Snorkelling Today, we delve into the significance of Maldives coral reefs, which represent 3.14 percent of global reef areas with over 2,031 distinct reefs. Morning snorkelling offers the chance to identify species for data collection, while afternoon sessions focus on Fulhadhoo’s coral restoration, vital for combating climate change threats.
Day 5 Coral Restoration Site Maintenance After breakfast we spend time learning more about coral identification before equipping ourselves with mask and fins to complete coral restoration maintenance work. Tasks may include, conducting reef surveys, cleaning the coral frames and assessing coral health, and possibly coral planting. Late afternoon as the day cools down, spend time giving back to the community that has welcomed us by participating in an island clean. Your reward will be an ocean swim!
Day 6 Explore the Atoll Coral Reefs Today’s boat excursion explores the stunning Atoll, including visits to Fehendhoo and Goidhoo islands, where vibrant coral reefs await. Snorkel responsibly amidst diverse marine life, with the chance of encountering majestic manta rays. We complete the day at an uninhabited island where we will snorkel the large coral areas around the island before enjoying sunset and returning to Fulhadhoo.
Day 7 Local Cooking Experience & Data Capture Today you will meet the ladies of the local Women’s Development Committee (WDC). Island WDCs play an important role in mobilising local women, and providing an avenue for women to network, collaborate and implement initiatives for community development. Learn how to make mashuni (a typical Maldivian breakfast dish comprising of tuna, onion, coconut, and chilli) and roshi (flatbread) to enjoy together over breakfast. Continue with your coral restoration site project where you will focus on collecting data to be uploaded on to the database this afternoon. Tonight we say farewell to Fulhadhoo with a BBQ dinner and certification ceremony.
Day 8 Departure Following an early breakfast, transfer by speedboat to Male International Airport in time for your flight home.
