Get a taste of the challenges facing Cambodians, and the subsequent impact on your students, on a rewarding teacher taster trip. Find out what it will be like to live and work in a rural Cambodian community and make a measurable impact through community development initiatives.

Cambodia is a country of extremes, with severe poverty flanked by 5* hotels and exclusive tourism, ancient temples and modern evolving city, peace loving people but with a terrible recent history of the Khmer Rouge. You will get the chance to visit the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat temple, wander the night markets of Siem Reap, understand the terrible events of the Khmer Rouge regime at the Killing Fields, soak up the sunset across padi-fields and meet the incredible people of Cambodia.  You will also get to visit the Cambodia Elephant Sanctuary which aims to provide a natural and comfortable environment for elephants previously used in tourism.

Once you experience it you will never look back. You will go away with a sound idea of what your students, can learn, be a part of and how they can make an impact.

Camp Beng Pae

Beng Pae is located in the village of Ta Lek and within the Beng Pae Wildlife Reserve. Surrounded by impressive pine trees, the camp is designed and built in the local hill tribe house style.

  • Location: 220 km (3 hours drive) from Siem Reap International Airport
  • Accommodation style: Traditional longhouses
  • Bed type: Comfy mattresses & bedding including mosquito net.

This itinerary will give you an insight into what you can expect on your expedition. It is dependent on time of travel and some elements may be subject to change.

Day Activities More details
Day 1 Arrive Phnom Penh Arrive Phnom Penh.  Transfer to hotel before Visiting the genocide museum – Toul Sleng (S21) and the killing field from the Khmer Rough regime. Enjoy dinner on the banks of the river.
Day 2 Transfer to Camp Beng Pae Transfer to camp Beng Mealea in Siem Reap Province (about 6 hours). Enjoy lunch on arrival, receive a blessing by the local monk and enjoy an orientation tour around the village.
Day 3 Community Project Work and Visit the Kulen Elephant Forest Project In the morning you will visit the English school in Camp Beng Pae. Enjoy spending time with the children during their lessons while they practise their English. After lunch you will visit the Kulen Elephant Forest Project. The sanctuary provides a natural and comfortable environment for retired  elephants that have previously been used in the tourism or logging industries. Observe the elephants as they socialize and interact with each other.
Day 4 Angkor Wat and Phare Circus Show Today you will head back to Siem Reap to spend the day exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site, Angkor Wat. Enjoy a guided tour as you immerse yourself in the hidden history of Cambodia exploring temples that were ‘lost’ for hundreds of years. Following a tasty dinner at a local restaurant, you will be treated to a show put on by the Phare Circus. The circus is non-profit organisation that helps young Cambodians transform their lives through theatre, dance and music, putting together shows that tell uniquely Cambodian stories.
Day 5 Transfer to Phnom Penh Transfer back to Phnom Penh, enjoying lunch enroute. Freshen up at the hotel before exploring the night markets and enjoying a your final dinner at a local restaurant
Day 6 Departure This morning we will say our goodbyes before heading to the airport ready for your flight home.
