Camps International and Covid-19

The Camps Team continue to stay busy despite travel restrictions and we would like to bring you up to date with our latest developments and some thoughts on the forthcoming year.

We would like to take this opportunity to say another thank you to all our clients who have worked with us and shown tremendous patience and support as we continue to manage the complexity of restructuring the 2020 expedition seasons.

We have made tough but important decisions regarding our expeditions due to depart in the coming months, to allow time for the blend of Covid measures to take effect and ensure we can operate safely. We’re also happy that many of our schools will be travelling with us next year instead!  The great news is that we have over 4,000 young people booked to travel during 2021 and we continue to base all our decision making and focus on returning to what we do best next year.

In the meantime, we are delighted to see schools now booking new trips for 2021 onwards and we recognise that this requires a positive outlook.  To give confidence we have developed a ‘Camps Peace of Mind Guarantee’ which provides you with a wide range of financial security measures and enhanced health and safety protocols.  We will of course continue to develop and expand on this in the coming months in line with global advances against the virus.

For those of you who are booked to travel on a Gap placement, we have reopened bookings to the existing departures for 2021 and an exciting development will enable independent travellers and families to book a selection of our Camps and experiences through Air BnB.  More to follow on this initiative soon.

Whilst we will not be hosting schools on the ground, we have had huge engagement from most of our schools on our totally free, curriculum linked e-learning initiative – ‘Real World Studies’.  Teachers can now access a range of materials to deliver educational content linked directly to our projects, including interactive opportunities with our in-country teams.

Finally, we feel it’s worth highlighting many of the positive developments that we anticipate will come into effect in the coming months, some of which are already starting to take effect. A blend of these will ensure we are able to operate with relative normality next year.

  • Quick progress in vaccine development
  • Enhanced treatments
  • Cheaper, quicker and more easily accessible testing
  • Expanding insurance cover for Covid related issues
  • Greater understanding and methods of limiting transmission

We would like to wish everyone our very best – stay positive, stay healthy and we look forward to seeing you back out on expedition very soon.
