Discover the wonders of the Moroccan landscape as you trek through the remote areas of the High Atlas Mountains, taking in the stunning panorama views from the mountain passes.

On this eight day expedition you will visit some of the more remote areas of the High Atlas Mountains, occasionally passing local mountain people tending to their livestock.  You will get to experience life in a traditional Berber village by spending the day with a Berber family before ending your trip with a high rope adventure, and of course…experiencing the bustle and delights of Marrakesh.

Day Activities More details
Day 1 Arrival Arrive at Marrakech airport where you will be met by your guide and transferred to your accommodation, where your Berber Treks guide will give you a health and safety briefing in preparation for your 4 day trek.
Day 2 Transfer to Oukaimeden 2600m and start trek (6 hours) After breakfast you will be transferred to the start of your trek, Oukaimeden 2600m, in the High Atlas mountains. The trek will take you downhill to Amsker 1800m via red ochre slopes, crossing small streams and past local mountain people tending to their livestock. The route continues along the river through many interesting Berber villages and then at Arg you will cross the river and have a picnic lunch under the shade of the trees. After lunch you will continue along the river to the riverside campin Imsker (1800m) where your team of cooks and muleteers will be waiting for you with a glass of mint tea. After you have had a chance to freshen up dinner will be served in the dinning tent and your guide will brief you for the next day’s trekking.
Day 3 Trek from Imsker 1800m to Azib Tamsoult 2600m (6 hours) Today’s trek is a steady ascent up to the Tizi n Techtpass 2400m. The route takes you up through juniper trees and you will also see oak apples. Your hard work will be rewarded by spectacular views and lunch just after the top of the pass. In the afternoon you will trek on a wider track which takes you through Berber villages where you can see the multi coloured carpets hanging out to dry. You will also have a birds eye view of the river valley below you and the mountain panorama. Stop for lunch in the village of Tizi Oussem (1722) and watch the villagers go about their everyday lives. This afternoon’s trek continues to ascend to our campsite at Azib n Tamsoult (2600m)
Day 4 Trek from Azib Tamsoult 2600m to Refuge Nelter 3200m (6 hours) After leaving Azib n Tamsoultwe you will pass a beautiful waterfall. From here we will continue trek up and over Tizi n Ougulezim 3400m. From the top of this pass you will see Refuge Nelter and the path to the summit of Toubkal. You will trek down to Refuge Nelter 3200m and enjoy the beautiful views for the rest of the day.
Day 5 Trek from Refuge Nelter3200m to Aremd 1900m (5 hours) We will make our way back down to the gite in Aremd 1900m next to the hamam via Sidi Chamharouch, a pre-Islamic saint’s mausoleum. There are a few shops here where you can buy a celebratory fizzy drink and have a warm shower in the gite next to the campsite. Celebrate over a lovely meal in the evening.
Days 6 Berber families experience Today you will spend a day in the homes of the Berber families. You will be fully involved in their daily routine and carry out the same activities as the family members. The Berber culture maintains traditional gender roles which are very important to them. Therefore, today the group will be split by gender to observe the differences of these gender roles. In the evening this will form the basis of a group discussion. Girls will learn to cook a tagine, make bread, look after the children, have henna on their hands and dress up in traditional Berber costume. Boys will be invited to work on construction projects and help look after livestock. You will all have lunch together with the Berber families. In the late afternoon you will take a short 40 min walk down to Imlil, and return to Marrrakech by minibus. (1.5 hours) Dinner will be eaten in Marrakech.
Day 7 High Rope Course and Marrakech In the morning you will practice your balancing and climbing skills at the Acropark high ropes course. Then after lunch you will have a guided tour around the medina, and you can try your hand at bartering in the souks. Your final dinner will also be in the Medina where you can soak up the bustling atmosphere of snake charmers and entertainers.
Day 8 Departure Today you will be transferred to the airport 2 hours before your departure.
