Activities

More details

DAY 1-3 PHASE 1: INDUCTION. GET EXPEDITION-READY. Arrive at Mombasa Airport and transfer to Fieldbase. Meet the team, have your safety briefing and orientation and settle in. You will prepare for your expedition and learn about the local surroundings. You will be informed as to what to expect when on expedition and any equipment that will be needed for it.
DAY 4-8 PHASE 2: RESEARCH + FIELD PROJECTS. MAKE AN IMPACT. Get stuck into local field projects, working alongside communities and gaining a deeper understanding of their cultures, customs and way of life. You might support a local school, paint classrooms, make bricks, help farmers care for their livestock, or meet the Tumaini Women’s Group to explore gender equality and how communities live alongside wildlife, including elephants. We’re not learning from textbooks here – this is curriculum-connected learning in the real world.
DAY 9-12 PHASE 3: ADVENTURE CHALLENGE. EARN EVERY STEP. It’s time to push your limits on an adventure which is fun, challenging and rewarding. Work alongside your team to trek through the rugged landscapes of the Tsavo region, navigating open farmland, rural settlements, rolling hills and wild savannah paths. You’ll learn to navigate using orienteering and map reading skills, while taking on varied terrain and camping out under the stars. You’ll build independence and resilience as you carry your own kit and tackle the demands of the trek, with the chance to step up as Day Leader and guide your team through the unknown.
DAY 13-14 ENDEX: END OF EXPEDITION DAYS. CELEBRATE THE JOURNEY. Wow – you’ve made it to the end! You’ve taken the lead, pushed your limits and conquered challenges on your expedition. Now it’s time to reflect and celebrate. You’ll embark on a full-day Tsavo East safari before meeting the Maasai tribe and learning about their traditions, culture and everyday life. Endex is time to review and debrief on what you have achieved on your expedition, and you’ll learn more on how you can take your expedition learnings back home with you and get inspired about what you can do next. And of course, there will be a farewell celebration as well.

How you’ll make a difference

You’ll work on a range of projects throughout your expedition, each aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and designed to make a significant and lasting impact on the region’s most critical issues.

School improvement

Kenya – School improvements and conservation work

Many local schools are in very dilapidated buildings which suffer from erosion and seasonal flooding. You’ll help to build or renovate school buildings so that local children have a clean and safe academic environment. You’ll also get involved in initiatives to promote a peaceful co-existence between the community and the local wildlife, such as improving natural waterholes and planting indigenous trees for habitat and food sources.
