How to adapt your fundraising

How can you fundraise for your expedition when you have to stay home? We get it – it’s not easy when the events and ideas you have been working hard to plan have been cancelled or postponed. But we’re here to help. The good news is, there are actually lots of ways you can adapt your existing plans last-minute, so all your hard work doesn’t have to go to waste. You might even find some new ideas you hadn’t thought of that will help get you closer to your goals.

Here’s some of our top ideas to make your fundraising self-isolation friendly.

Jumble Sale vs Ebay

With the Easter holidays approaching, you may have planned a car boot sale and been collecting all your family and friends unwanted items. The last thing you want is to have things sitting around your house waiting to be sold, so get a head start on your selling and put them on sites such as Ebay or Gumtree. If you don’t want to go to the post office, you can organise for a courier service to pick up your items so you won’t need to leave your home.

Tombola vs virtual quiz

Had a tombola planned? You might have been collecting tombola prizes and promoting your event in the weeks leading up to the event. Instead of cancelling, you could create and host a virtual quiz or competition where people pay an entry fee and have the chance to win one of your prizes!

Check out Dean’s fundraising video to find out more about how you can host a virtual quiz.

Sponsored walk vs sponsored stair climb

You may have planned and begun to collect sponsorships for a sponsored walk or run. Now that we are limited to how much time we can spend outside, you could look at doing a fitness challenge in your own home. There are plenty of creative ways to challenge yourself whilst staying indoors. Why not use the stairs and do a sponsored climb or get a rope and do a sponsored skip?

Music event vs livestream

Music events and discos can be really successful ways to make a large amount of money in one go but they also take a lot of planning. With the current ban on public gatherings, we don’t want all your hard work to go to waste. Why don’t you consider moving your event online and hosting a livestream? Set up a GoFundMe page and get people to donate to whilst they’re watching or ask for a set donation in return for a private link, like an entry ticket.

Craft sale vs Etsy

Have you been hard at work making crafts to sell at a local fête? You can move to selling your crafts online instead. Etsy is a great site for people that want to sell their handmade creations. Make sure to share the link for your products on your social media and you could reach even more potential buyers than you would if you were to sell at the fête.

Bake sale vs cooking class

If you’ve been organising a bake sale, you could use your cooking skills to teach others to bake instead. Run your own cooking class for beginners using video call software or by pre-recording a video and ask people to pay a few pounds to join in. This way you can make use of your spare ingredients and everyone gets a tasty treat at the end to enjoy!
