Our top tips for fundraising

Are you just getting started on your fundraising journey? Or maybe you’re stuck in a rut and need a little boost to get you going again. Our top fundraising tips will get you fired up and ready to get stuck in.

Start planning early

There’s no such thing as being too prepared when it comes to fundraising. Planning events well in advance means that you have more time to advertise, potentially giving you a bigger turnout and the chance to raise more funds! It also means there’s no last-minute panic for fundraising leading up to your expedition, giving you more time to get excited for your upcoming adventure.

Remember to say ‘thank you’

It’s important to remember to be polite when fundraising and it means a lot to people if they receive simple a ‘thank you’ after donating to your cause. Giving them a positive donating experience means that they’ll be more likely do it again in the future or mention your fundraising efforts to others.

Be honest with people

Make sure to tell your supporters about where their donation is going. People are more likely to give money if they understand what the cause is and what their money is going towards. There are some great resources available on your traveller gateway that you can use to help explain more about your expedition and the vital sustainable projects you’ll be involved in.

Include family and friends in your plans

Do any of your family and friends have skills that might come in handy for your fundraising? Maybe they’re good at design and can make you a fundraising poster, or have a lot of contacts through work that they can ask for donations. By involving your friends and family, you may be able to save a lot of time and money!

Offer something in return for a donation

The most successful fundraisers are often the ones in which people get something in return for their donation. You could provide a service like mowing the lawn or sell them a craft you’ve made. You could even put on event and sell them tickets (make sure you’re adhering to current government guidance).

Social media is great for advertising

With more people choosing to stay indoors, social media is a great way to advertise your fundraising without even needing to leave your home. You can even host fundraisers on there too! Just create an event, ask family and friends to share and see how many people you can reach.
